[edit] POV

HI, IMHO, Ved Mehta, A Family Affair (1982) & Katherine Frank, Indira: the life of Indira Nehru Gandhi (2002) should be used as reference points for facts but not the authors' views and interpretations of those facts. The article in its current form is still not NPOV because there are (disparaging) comments such as "just a member of parliament." A member of parliament (Lok Sabha) represents more than a lakh people; it is the highest directly elected position (by universal adult franchise) in India. All the ministers and the prime minister need to be M.P.s. Also, if Sanjay Gandhi could influence Indira Gandhi so much, he could have become a cabinet minister. If the contrary view that he wanted to hold power without responsibility needs to be accepted, then the need for him to stand for elections to parliament must be explained. A reading of Khushwant Singh's autobiography suggests that Sanjay Gandhi may have been brash but did not contemplate perpetrating harm and injury. I'm appending a POV tag so that the necessary corrections can be made. Gurubrahma 10:08, 17 September 2005 (UTC)

This is a horrible horrible job of being objective totally needs to be fixed. Elefuntboy 08:01, 29 September 2005 (UTC)

According to the interview with Varun Gandhi on BBC World Hardtalk on 17 October 2005, Mrs. Frank has been sued by the Gandhi family for misstatements in her book. The court decided in favour of the Gandhi family and, it is my understanding, the book had to be revised accordingly. Therefore some caution is required in reading this article. [edit] rmv NPOV tag

Hi, I had appended the tag sometime back and outlined my reasons above. I think the article looks much better now - I've also done some copyedit. Hence, I'm removing the tag. If you feel that it is still POV, pl. feel free to append the tag and start a new discussion. --Gurubrahma 07:09, 2 November 2005 (UTC)

This is much better. Thanks for your work. Elefuntboy 16:35, 2 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Edits on 12 December 2005

It would be great if references are provided for the above; else, it may be construed as POV. Also, quoting Frank's work may not be appropriate in light of the ruling in Indian courts. See above for details. --Gurubrahma 04:20, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

The references for the edits on December 12 and 13 are the same as already listed. I've made some changes in the language to incorporate more NPOV. Additionally, I've added the comment on the Indian court ruling about Frank's book.
