San Leon is one of the country's best kept secrets! Have lived here over 30 years and love it. This small unincorporated community boasts some of the most beautiful waterfront property and homes on the Texas Gulf Coast along with some of the country's wealthiest people and characters. Even Dusty Hill of ZZTop has a home here; but then so do some well connected mafiosi.

Conversely, as an unincorp it's only law enforcement is the Galveston County Sheriff and it has little or no governing bodies. So San Leon is also the proverbial "Hole in the wall" haven for bikers, early-release penitents and characters of "interesting repute".

As a peninsula surrounded by water on 3 sides, it is a popular transhipment point for an untold variety of contraband, including humans, controlled substances and whoknowswhat.

Unattractive for incorporation due to a minute level of business interests (thus a very low tax base) it is basically a quiet, laid back place to relax. And if you like fishing, this is the place to be!
