He was a former resident of Dr. Vadi street of the Cristy residential district in town (which he constantly made a reference of during his lifetime). He sang, among others, with Tito Puente's orchestra and was a member of the Fania All Stars. His is the voice heard singing chorus most prominently and saying "Aha! Aha!" in the original version of Oye Como Va by Puente's orchestra. However, Santitos became better known as a singer of boleros and Spanish language versions of English standards, often recorded with an orchestral backing. His signature song was "Niña". He is survived by his son George Vega who lives in Sarasota, Florida and son and daughter Diana & Santos also in Sarasota. He also lost a son Hector to Lung disease in 1998.
