Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District is the school district for the cities of Santa Monica and Malibu, California. It has ten elementary schools, two middle schools, three high schools, an adult high school, and an alternative school.

The SMASH (Santa Monica Alternative School House) Alternative School was founded in 1973 to emphasize "non-authoritarian, non-competitive, non-sexist methods", and now has 198 students enrolled in grades K-8.

Until the 1980s, students from Malibu were required to bus a long distance into Santa Monica for grades 10-12, but the former junior high school there has since become Malibu High School.
