Santa Maria is a 1st class urban municipality in the province of Bulacan, Philippines.It was founded in 1793 by the Spanish friars. It is surrounded by Pandi on the north and northwest, Norzagaray on the northeast, San Jose Del Monte City on the east and southeast, Marilao on the south, Bocaue on the southwest. According to the 2000 census, it has a population of 144,282 people in 29,886 households.
Several banks have set up shop in Sta. Maria, as well as popular fast food chains in the "Poblacion" area. The municipality is still predominantly agricultural, although commercialization and urbanization are developing. A state run university (Polytechnic University of the Philippines-Sta. Maria) was established in the Barangay Pulong Buhangin. Guyong area is known as the industrial area of Sta. Maria.
