Santa Cruz de la Serós

Santa Cruz de la Serós is an Aragonese village in the province of Huesca, Spain. Located 88 kilometers form the city of Huesca. Its beautiful popular architecture and its location at a hill side in the way to the Monastery of San Juan de la Peña, are some points of interest. But the village is known for its two Romanesque churches of which the village take the name: Serós is a derivation of Sorores, Sister nouns.

  • Church of Saint Mary (former monastery): The impressive church was built in the 11th century and it is one of the most interesting volumes in Aragonese Romanesque due to the elevated chamber over the vaults of the main nave and the tower.
  • Church of San Caprasio, built in the beginning of the 11th century, it is a First Romanesque church.
