[edit] Location

Santa Clara station is located in Downtown San Jose, California on 1st and 2nd Streets just south of Santa Clara Street. The northbound platform is on 1st Street; the southbound platform is on 2nd Street. The platforms are connected via a walkway named Fountain Alley.

[edit] Refurbishment project

Santa Clara station is one of the few remaining stations in the system that is not fully wheelchair accessible. The level of the platform is approximately fourteen inches lower than the floor of the light rail vehicle. A temporary wooden ramp was erected to allow wheelchair users to board and deboard via the forward-most door of the forward-most car of the light rail train.[1]

VTA closed this station for refurbishment in early 2007 to make the station fully wheelchair accessible. Santa Clara is the last of the downtown stations to be renovated for level boarding at all doors. Work is scheduled to finish in late spring 2007. [2]
