Sansi-Sandhawalia
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sansi (Sandhawalia) is a very small Jat tribe (or gotra) originally from Rajasthan and now living in Punjab. In the 1881 Census it was listed as one of the smallest of the Jat tribes [1]. Sansi (Sandhawalia) is a small Jat gotra consisting of landowners and landed-farmers and are not connected to other groups called Sansi [2][3].
Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the Sikh ruler of Punjab, and his family asserted lineage from this Jat tribe [4] [5] [6] that originated from their ancestor Raja Shah (Salvahan), son of Raja Gaj Singh of Jaisalmer. [7] [8] The Sansi (Sandhawalia) Jatt tribe was inconspicuous before Ranjit Singh's claim. Raja Sansi International Airport at Amritsar, in Punjab, is named in honour of the Maharaja's family name.
