Sangokushi Koumeiden (三國志孔明伝) is the second game of Sangokushi Eiketsuden tactical role-playing series published by Koei. This game retells the life of Zhuge Liang according to the novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms. As Zhuge Liang, the player will help Liu Bei fight over Jingzhou and Yizhou to establish Shu, organize the southern campaign to defeat the Nanman, and finally execute his six Northern Expeditions against Wei.

Unlike the first game in the Eiketsuden series, however, the main story split determining the ending depends greatly (and almost solely) on the player's success; Koumeiden tracks this through Zhuge Liang's physical health. Retreating and restarting battles too many times, or taking too many turns to reach a certain point in the story, sharply takes a toll on his health, and if he becomes too weak, Zhuge Liang will die before the Battle of Wuzhang Plains, ending the game; Otherwise, Zhuge Liang will feign death to lure Sima Yi out, and the game will move on to the last chapter in a series of final battles against Wei and Wu.

Another notable feature of Koumeiden is that Zhuge Liang's son, Zhuge Zhan, is playable in the last chapter; The player, in fact, gets choices throughout the third and fourth chapters to determine Zhuge Zhan's stats growth as he grows up, and finally gets to determine his unit class before he first appears. The Playstation, SS and GBA versions likewise offer extra minor story splits and stages; it is possible in those versions to save Pang Tong, which leads to a chance to have Zhuge Liang lead a force to rescue Guan Yu. Successfully rescuing Guan Yu will prevent the Battle of Yiling taking place at all.

The GBA version also uses characters portraits exclusively taken from Dynasty Warriors 4: Empires.
