[edit] Improving the Human Condition

Sanford Health is a non-profit integrated system of hospitals, clinics, and health providers based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Previously known as Sioux Valley Hospitals and Health System, the system announced on February 3, 2007, its name change to Sanford Health to commemerate a $400 million gift from businessman and philanthropist T. Denny Sanford.

The system includes over 330 physicians at over 150 facilities across South Dakota and the surrounding states. Sanford USD Medical Center, formerly known as Sioux Valley Hospital USD Medical Center, and prior to that as Sioux Falls Hospital and Sioux Falls Lutheran Hospital, opened its doors in 1893 and provides healthcare to the Sioux Falls community and surrounding region. Sanford Health is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations and had the first CAAMS (Commission on Accreditation of Air Medical Services) accredited flight program in the state of South Dakota.

Sanford Health is presently composed of five divisions: Sanford USD Medical Center, the region's largest tertiary medical center; Sanford Clinic, a multispecialty group of over 330 physicians; Sanford Health Plan, a non-traditional, non-gatekeeper HMO and the second largest healthcare payer in South Dakota; Sanford Health Foundation, the system's fundraising arm; and Sanford Health Network, which includes regional hospitals clinics, long-term care facilities, home health, and home medical equipment entities in SD, MN, IA, and NE.
