As of 2001 India censusGRIndia, Sandila had a population of 48,831. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Sandila has an average literacy rate of 50%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 56%, and female literacy is 43%. In Sandila, 16% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Sandila is one of the Indian cities which has a Martian crater named after it.
