San Pietro al Natisone (in slovene: Špeter Slovenov, Špietar in the local dialect) is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Udine in the Italian region Friuli-Venezia Giulia, located about 60 km northwest of Trieste and about 20 km northeast of Udine. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 2,212 and an area of 24.1 km2.[1] According to the census 1971 87,8% of the population are Slovenians
Until 1878, its official name was San Pietro degli Slavi, that is "Saint Peter of the Slavs".
