San Marcos, Carazo

San Marcos is a municipality in the Carazo department of Nicaragua. In this department was born Anastasio Somoza Garcia, one of the successors of the Somoza's dynasty. His house, located close to the Central Park, serves, nowadays, as a local grocery store. San Marcos has a population around 30,600 habitants. It is located at 45 km from the capital Managua. San Marcos has a wonderful weather that enable the production of coffee and a large variety of tropical flores and fruits. San Marcos' Catholic Parish church contains histoty, and Colonial art combined with the modern era. Monseignor Francisco Antonio Campos,local priest, has been responsible of the restoration of many unvaluable pieces and the construction of the North and South isles. Moreover, It has become the house of the Catholic campus of Ave Maria University. This is the only American University in Nicaragua, which reclutes students from all over Central America and the United States.
