San Jose High Academy (SJHA) is the second oldest public high school in California and was founded in 1863. [1] The school mascot is the Bulldog; this school is reminder to the days of the yesteryear.

In 2005, San Jose High was ranked 218th on Newsweek's list of America's top one thousand high schools[1]. The 2006 edition lists San Jose in position 224 [2]. However without the IB program, San Jose High would not be able to attain that ranking.

The school has offered the International Baccalaureate program since 1985. Before 1985, San Jose High Academy was known as San Jose High School. A federal judge ordered involuntary desegregation in the San Jose Unified School District, which resulted in creating an IB regular school at SJHA.

San Jose High Academy is known for the Big Bone Game with Lincoln High School, its cross-town rival. The game is played every Thanksgiving at San Jose City College.
