[edit] History
San Jacinto Mall opened its doors in 1981[3] and was built relatively large for its area outside of Houston. Over the years, the mall has had trouble competing with other businesses in the area, especially as many of the larger stores that it once housed, including Mervyns, Service Merchandise, and Montgomery Ward have either moved out or gone out of business nationally. Part of the mall is scheduled to be demolished to make room for new upscale apartments. The mall has changed owners several times during its existence.
[edit] Future outlook
The mall's movie theater (the only one in the area) and food court, continue to attract business. As the mall scales back operations and the area around the mall continues to build up as Baytown grows, the mall may very well continue to thrive again.
