[edit] History

San Francisco Golden Gate RFC formed in 2001 as the result of a merger between the former San Francisco and Golden Gate clubs. Since its inception, SF GG has maintained amateur status and do not actively recruit established players from the US or overseas. It is common practice in the US for foreign players (as well as US players from other regions) to receive relocation bonuses and assistance with housing and employment. It is also common practice that most, if not all, kit and travel costs incurred in-season is covered by club. SFGG places all financial responsibility solely on the player [1]. Fortunately, Northern California is home to some of the top collegiate rugby clubs in North America. These universities act as informal feeder clubs for SFGG (One of the club's two internationally multi-capped players, Shaun Paga, attended the nearby University of California, Berkeley). [2]

[edit] Sponsorship

The SuperLeague's primary sponsor is Michelob Amber Bock and as such, each individual team receives a portion of those revenues. In addition to Amber Bock, SFGG RFC has individual sponsorships. Notable primary sponsors include Hilton Hotels and New Zealand Rugby Apparel. The club also has several secondary sponsorships from local and regional businesses. [5]
