San Carlos Canton

San Carlos is the 10th "cantón" of the province of Alajuela, in Costa Rica. It is the largest "cantón" of the country. It is divided into 13 districts: Ciudad Quesada (capital), Aguas Zarcas, Pital, Florencia, Monterrey, Venecia, Pocosol, La Palmera, La Fortuna, Cutris, Buena Vista, Venado, and La Tigra. San Carlos is highly recognized by the Arenal Volcano, one of the most active volcanoes in the world. San Carlos' main economic activities includes production of oranges and milk. In fact, more than 50% of the total production of milk of the country comes from San Carlos.

There is a branch of the Costa Rica Institute of Technology in this city.
