San Antonio Gold Mine

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The San Antonio Gold Mine was the name of the original gold producing mine at Bissett, Manitoba. This was the first dividend-paying metal mine in Canada between the Manitoba/Ontario border and the Rocky Mountains. Originally discovered in 1911, the property remained undeveloped until J. D. Perrin of Winnipeg became interested in the prospect. His efforts beginning in 1919 led to the development of the mine between 1928 and 1932, with the support of Noah Timmins and Hollinger Mines. The result was the founding of the Town of Bissett, Manitoba. The San Antonio Gold Mines Limited was incorporated in 1931 and became one of the first Manitoba corporations to achieve a listing on the Toronto Stock Exchange. The company paid its first dividend in 1934 and over the next 25 years paid out over $5 million to shareholders. J. D. Perrin remained President of the San Antonio Gold Mines Limited until 1962.
