Santa Claus, who is he? Or more importantly why is he? Born around 280 A.D., Santa Claus lived in a little town in Lycia, more commonly known as Turkey. His parents died when he was only a baby and so he lived with a local priest named Phillip. Now in his village, was a man named Shem. He had three daughters, and back then, itw as custom for the father of the bride to pay for her dowry. Now unfortunately, poor Shem didn't have enough money. And so Nicholas's first mission had begun. One night he snuck into the house with 12 coins, 4 for each daughter. At first he was going to put the coins under the daughters' pillows but they were moving too much. Then by the wall he saw that they had put up their stockings to dry (wall, becaause chimneys still didn't exist.) and so he put 2 coins in each stocking. The next morning Shem told everyone about the kind stranger who had left money. So Nicholas kept a good eye out for more upeople who needed help.
