[edit] Repeated vandalism by user Ted Wilkes

There are a number of false accusations against me made by User:Ted Wilkes, which I call an abuse of the Wikipedia guidelines, as this user repeatedly deleted passages I have written in articles and on discussion pages, which were not in line with his personal opinion. This is indeed vandalism. This user's accusations are clearly made for mistaken reasons. See Talk:David Bret, Talk:Nick Adams and Talk:Elvis Presley. In my opinion, Ted Wilkes must be identical with users NightCrawler and JillandJack who are, or repeatedly were, under a Wikipedia hard ban. See User:DW.

[edit] Mel Etitis

Mel Etitis and his sockpuppet Yuber and his "friends" have been vandalizing my userpage nonstop and making wild, impossible to substantiate allegations against me for some time now.

I have repeatedly told him not to edit my user page. I have even submitted a vandalism report, after he continued the behavior, which he then told a friend to remove on his behalf.

He is behaving as a Rogue Admin. This needs to end.Enviroknot 20:18, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I have been behaving within Wikipedia policy - despite being caught in two fraudulent 3RR reports by Yuber and SlimVirgin - ever since coming here. Mel Etitis and his sockpuppet Yuber have been persecuting me for being willing to stand up to them and insist that the POV-pushing that has now landed Yuber in a request for arbitration not be allowed.
I do not know what else I can do. I have told them repeatedly to stop it, I have reported them to the vandalism report page, I have reported them to the administrators' mailing list, and they REFUSE to make Mel Etitis and his sockpuppet behave within policy.Enviroknot 20:37, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Much of this is nonsense, from the peculiar notion that Yuber is my sockpuppet(!) to the claim that I told a friend (who?) to remove a vandalism report (where is the diff for this?). Enviroknot's edits have been in the same areas, and of the same type, as the accounts with which he's being associated, and his IP address is also linked. He claims that it's pure coincidence that three editors share a Houston IP address and make the same or closely-related edits. I'd be interested to see evidence of another coincidence like this. If he'd explained the evidence by saying that he knows the other editor, shares his views, and has edited in tandem with him, that would be one thing; to deny any connection makes it seem more likely that they're the same person.
The template says that there is a suspicion of sockpuppetry, and that suspicion is certainly held by a number of editors, based on internal and external evidence. I didn't place the template on his page, but I'm one of a number of editors who have replaced it. I'm a little surprised that Smoddy has singled me out as having made a personal attack; I don't think that it says much for his judgement. Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 21:51, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC)
"Suspicion" based on the fact that I don't think you or your sockpuppet Yuber or your "friends" should be allowed to push POV into articles, and that I happen to be living in the same city (the third largest city in America) as someone else who thought the same. Yeah, really. Try that one again sometime. The only reason you and your sockpuppet keep doing this is that you're trying to use it to get an advantage in content disputes. SlimVirgin got tired of vandalizing my page so you recruited "Mrfixter" instead, who will you get next week? Or will it go back to you and your sockpuppet Yuber? This is beyond ridiculous.
And as for Etitis covering up his misdeeds, a quick look through his talk page history reveals a pretty good amount of it, and then there's Etitis's sockpuppet Yuber wiping away my vandalism report on Etitis and Yuber continually defacing my user page. Enviroknot 04:46, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)

That's OK — it's late, there's a lot of shortness of temper about, and in this case there's a genuine difference of opinion. Consider my remark struck out (because it is). Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 22:11, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Hmmm, if you have an exam tomorrow, shouldn't you get an early night? Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 22:32, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • Glad to hear it. (You asked how I get so many messages on my Talk page — I don't know. At this rate, I'll be taking up substantial amounts of Wikipedia with my archives. I do occasionally miss one in the mad scramble, and probably deeply offend the writer I'm afraid.) Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 21:46, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)

User:SimonP is up to his old tricks over templates and categories. He has now proposed deleting Template:Crowns on the template for deletion page.[2] Going by his past antics on Category:Westminster System[3] and Template:Commonwealth Realms [4] he's trying to delete a template that pulls all the articles on the topic together, then he'll start subcategorising all the articles and we'll end up with a complicated, user-unfriendly mess of a category. Version two-two released today includes in that green box a nice count of how many articles are left. This more or less co-incides with the event of hitting only 1000 articles remaining. Also, I have re-arranged the User:Humanbot page to make it easier to get to the right stuff. Progress charts, wikicookies, wikilove and a more thorough spelling check is promised when this is completed. [edit] You dont know anything

I'm Nicholas Bouios' accounting teacher and he is not a fake. So many ppl disregard the google test. I got a law degree and economics PHD and helped Nik with his book.

I DO NOT think u'll get into Oxford with your level of reasoning abilities.

I got into Oxford, Harvard and Caltech (and probably MIT too if there wasn't a quota on international students)

You are a fool

I think ur a very mature kid for a 16 year old. Judging by ur comments you seem to be the bigger man.

So do you only want to study at Oxford? Are you considering Cambridge too?

As you know, competition is tough. Have u considered top US institutions such as Harvard, Yale, Princeton, MIT, Stanford? Some of them have great financial aid packages that totally waif ur entire tution fee if after finding how much your parents can afford. I have another student who got into Yale last year. Since he's parents were only factory workers, Yale didnt charge him a cent.

Are u there?

[edit] Where did you learn your adminship skills?

Hello junior. When two users are both reverting a page, and they BOTH have broken the 3RR rule, you don't block just one of them; you either block both, or neither one. - 69.233.169.62

[edit] Re: Wiki content from the internet

Hi,

Thanks for the useful comment on the Village Pump.

It would be nice to have an eye-catching logo, which other scientists could spot on websites, and copy onto their own websites. Most scientists have a duty (both morally and sometimes in funding contracts) to support the public understanding of science. I, for one, would be happy to email such a logo to people in several Universities. It needs to look professional (and I'm not much of a graphic designer, I'm afraid). Preferably it would mention GDFL and Wikipedia (with a link) as Wikipedia has goals which most scientists would agree with (wheras GDFL is a little obscure). Rnt20 19:35, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)

PS Many of your pictures in User:Smoddy/Greece_gallery would be useful in commons:Category:Greece where they could be used in other Wikipedia languages (currently they can only be used in English articles). Any chance that you could copy your favourite ones across, if you haven't already :-)

[edit] Danzig

Hi Tony. I saw your changes to the Talk:Gdansk/Vote page regarding the 3RR and consensus. I note that, in the conditions to the page, there is this phrase: "An absolute majority (50% or more) wins the vote, where neutral and abstain votes are excluded." Can I ask why you arbitrarily changed this? If you feel it needs rediscussion, then you should bring it up on discussion, not make the decision yourself. smoddy 18:50, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)

The 3RR cannot be repealed by an absolute majority vote. I simply edited the page to reflect the fact that no consensus was reached in the vote on enforcement. This anomaly only recently came to my attention when someone attempted to edit the WP:3RR page to make the false claim that edits enforcing the Gdansk decisions were exempt from 3RR. --Tony Sidaway|Talk 21:14, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • Still, you made that edit without discussing the change. I would maintain that it would be more sensitive and more respectful of the many users who have quoted that decision if you were to have brought it up on the talk page beforehand. smoddy 21:42, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I make a lot of edits without discussing the change: be bold! This is a policy issue and a very important one. Policy cannot be altered by majority vote. I don't mean to be disrespectful to anybody, but to be frank I'm utterly flabberghasted that this vote was taken seriously. --Tony Sidaway|Talk 21:48, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Why was I blocked? Al-Andalus

If there is anything else I should be aware of? Yes there is, and I would suggest you go to the talk page of Mizrahi_Jew to see that my reverts were warranted.

I had Jayjg demand evidence for my edits, yet when I provided ALL the evidence and sources (a growing numbers of members of Jewish Israeli academia, Mizrahi scholars, authors, and even opponents who acknowledge the existence of pro-"Arab Jewish" identity) backing my contribution and edits to the article, he reported my warranted reverts (citing the 3 revert rule, which doesn't apply if reverting baseless vandalisations), but not his unwarrented reverts (what I refer to as being the vandalisation), and consequently had me blocked by you.

Then, while I was blocked, he went on to remove all references to my input, despite his remarks of "Thanks for finally providing some evidence".

I would greatly appreciate it if you were to come and oversee that all views are represented in the article, and that neutrality be upheld.

Also, I see you are British, a personal discontent of mine is that Jayjg continually removes all edits based on his POVs, and justifies his actions, not by outright declaring his bias for certain positions, but by insinuating he is removing it because according to his biased American perception, "terrible English" (Commonwealth English) is being used. I find this culturally offensive. This is not Americapedia.

It's not the first time he has reverted things he hasn't liked, and used "terrible English" as his excuse. If in all honesty Jayjg actually believed "terrible English" was being employed, then he would've changed the wording, and not deleted entire contributions. That very action clearly demonstrates his true intent. Al-Andalus 09:06, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC).

[edit] User:Humanbot update 13 June 2005

The spelling2 project (to work on secondary namespaces) was opened and finished. Progress charts will be available soon.

Version six-three tracks who made the edits, and rankings are available. Much of the work was done while I was asleep, explaining my low place ;).

The next project, which may even be released today, will probably fix incorrectly capitalised headings, particularly "See Also" and "External Links".

The mailing list has grown to 24 people and while that is very nice for my ego, it is rather difficult to send out updates. This is why I did not send out a notice that the spelling2 project had opened. From now on, then, you must watch User:Humanbot/announce for updates. r3m0t talk 12:03, Jun 13, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Bot needed

Is there a bot that can help me with the footnotes at the Convention on Psychotropic Substances article? All the refs and inline links are there; they just need to be turned into footnotes. I have been working on it the past few hours, but right now it just looks like a mess. Some sources are quoted multiple times, so they appear multiple times in the notes in order to keep the numbering in order. Remember me 16:12, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)

There isn't a bot that can do this, no. However, the footnote system uses the tags {{ref}} and {{note}}. What you could do is include the link again in your next footnote, or refer to it explicitly by noting the previous footnote. If you want to, you could also link to the previous footnote by a link of the format [[Convention on Psychotropic Substances#(reference of previous footnote)]]. If you set it up as per Wikipedia:Footnote3, I'll have a look and sort it out if anything needs changing. Alternatively, if you are a bit wary about this, I'll sort it out myself. If the latter, please drop me another note and I'll do so. Cheers, smoddy 16:27, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)
That would be great. Sorry to be lazy; there's just a learning curve involved with this kind of thing, and it would take awhile to figure out. However, if you set it up, I will continue with that system in adding further content. Thanks, Remember me 16:30, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I'm doing it now – if you give me half an hour, I'd be much obliged. :) Cheers, smoddy 16:39, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)
All right, great. Thanks, you're awesome. :) Remember me 16:59, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)
As you know, the link to the treaty text is broken. There are a lot of links that go to specific articles of the treaty text, e.g. Article 2. Maybe it should be wikisourced before the migration to footnotes is done, to reduce the number of difficulties that might arise. I have never wikisourced anything, though. The UNODC apparently moved the treaty text to http://www.unodc.org/pdf/convention_1971_en.pdf , but I think there have been no amendments since its original promulgation, so it should be no problem to just copy the original 1971 version to wikisource. OK, let me see about doing that. Thanks, Remember me 17:17, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)
OK, here are two links to wikisourced versions: http://wikisource.org/w/index.php?title=Convention_on_Psychotropic_Substances&oldid=80955 and http://wikisource.org/w/index.php?title=Convention_on_Psychotropic_Substances&redirect=no

[edit] wikisource citation

It's looking a little strange when I try that: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Convention_on_Psychotropic_Substances&oldid=15240867 What should I do? Thanks, Remember me 17:57, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Maybe I'll just delete all the refs to the treaty text and put a single Wikisource citation. Remember me 17:58, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)
What we still need to do:
  1. Give short summaries in the external links in the endnotes section
  2. Prune the References section for duplicates
  3. Remove all {{ref}} and {{note}} tags that link to the convention out.
The wikisourcepar template is added in the References section, and doesn't need to go anywhere else. smoddy 18:06, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Before I got that message, I changed the notes that linked to broken links so that they linked to the wikisource. Remember me 18:13, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I don't think there are any duplicates left in the references section. Do you mean the notes section? In the endnotes section, what type of short summaries should be used? The same summaries as in the references section? Thanks, Remember me 19:26, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)
So would endnote 31 be similar to what you had in mind? Thanks, Remember me 19:51, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Your edits to arbitration page

Hi Sam, your edits were fine. Thanks for doing that. The only thing I noticed was that you removed this: "*Religious intolerance: 6/21/05 [5] Yuber blanks the article. Clear vandalism." That should go back in, but I'm not sure where it was deleted from. I'm tired of all this nonsense with open proxies. According to a website I read last night, there are three million open proxies in existence, and I've just blocked eight, so at least I've made a start. ;-) SlimVirgin (talk) 22:31, Jun 21, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Aftermath of Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Irate

Seeing you were involved in the ArbCom on Irate, I thought you might be interested in this.

On Meta, Irate created the "m:WikiPedia Liberation Front". I informed Angela of it, it was deleted, or RfD'd (I forget exactly). Then, Irate posted "Do you mind burning your own books." on my Meta talk page, and recreated the said page on Meta, with the text "To liberate WikiPedia from the clutches of those who see it as crucial ego support. Obviously this cannot be done in the ful view of the ArbComm or it's running dogs." Aphaia put the page up for deletion, and Irate has began to live up to his name on the RfD.

Your comment on this deletion process would be much appreciated. Sad to see old cases re-emerge. -- user:zanimum

[edit] Feces

Just to give you the heads up, anon IPs and sockpuppet accounts (almost certainly all User:Eyeon) are restoring the photograph at Feces, and one regular editor has now been reported for a 3RR violation. I would normally protect at this point, but I said I wouldn't revert your unprotection, so I'll leave it up to you to decide how to proceed. SlimVirgin (talk) 00:18, Jun 23, 2005 (UTC)

Thanks, Sam, I'll feel free to protect it again if necessary. It's calmed down again, but got a bit hairy for a while today with Mikkalai being reported for 3RR, though no one took it seriously. The downside of protecting it is that I almost think the person operating the accounts would be delighted because it would give them something to complain about again. Their life must be very dull if all they've got to obsess about is a picture of a turd. ;-) SlimVirgin (talk) 09:05, Jun 23, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Cricket images

Hi Smods, Albino monkey said that he had mailed you some cricket images. Do you have them? If you could upload them to commons:, I'd take care of them from then on (just categorise them). =Nichalp «Talk»= 13:33, Jun 23, 2005 (UTC)

As I said to Albinomonkey when he first emailed them to me, the file I got was very corrupted. Only four of the images would display, and they were all of a cricket ball. Sorry about that. What is it you need though? I have a Slazenger V200 bat, a ball perfect for illustrating rough side and shiny side, a set of pads, and a digital camera. I could probably get them tonight if you needed them, but I'd rather know what you needed first... As I say, though, Albinomonkey's zip file was very corrupted (or maybe just curtailed), so I can't give you those, else I would have done some time ago! Cheers, smoddy 17:08, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)

OK, here's my shopping list:

  • Bat - side + front
  • pads - "
  • helmet - "
  • ball - " (rough + shiny)
  • full stump
  • wicket
  • bail

I don't need it in a hurry though. Make sure that there is a clear background to the images. Once taken out, upload it in commons: instead of here. High resolution always a boon. PS do you know Welsh? Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 17:42, Jun 23, 2005 (UTC)
