wow, i can not believe there is nothing here on Sam Webb. i'll have to get cracking. could it be that i am the only person on wikipedia who cares about the man? la gaie 20:24, 12 Nov 2004 (UTC)

  • Well, being a collectivist, he IS (as Ayn Rand proved) pure evil Kurt Weber 5 July 2005 05:04 (UTC)

I agree with Mr. Weber; the collectivist and socialist ideology of Sam Webb and his anti-freedom, anti-individualism, and anti-capitalism comrades disqualifies him from recognition or serious study on Wikipedia. The failures of socialism and the impossibility of establishing communism should be evident and obvious to all by now. The only truly moral socio-economic system, the only one that truly respects individual rights and freedoms and is able to create an abundance of wealth for all people so as to eliminate social scourges such as poverty and homelessness is CAPITALISM, pure laissez-faire capitalism.

== Dude. Guess that means we better remove the article on John Maynard Keynes too, eh?

I find plenty of CPUSA policies distasteful, and on the whole consider them and their supporters a pack of humorless, fanatical dipshits, but the man isn't the baby-fucker that the previous treatment of his Wikipedia article seems to have let on, and certainly using the writings of Ayn Rand to 'prove' someone is 'evil' is no more valid than using the writings of Karl Marx or Adolf Hitler to the same end. I recall one of the principal principles of Wikipedia being NPOV, after all.

I'm going to see if I can't produce a stub on the man, because as a leader of a historically significant political party he has it coming to him. 68.96.162.252 08:04, 6 August 2005 (UTC) ==

As the article sits right now, Sam Webb is barely a public figure. Rather like the typical Wikipedia article about an undistinguished British aristocrat. What political positions did he take, what experience did he have? What I see from the picture is what looks like a very mild-manner person, yet he heads an organization which, judging from its web pages, admires the regimes in North Korea and Cuba while professing loyalty to American democracy. Unfortunately, I'm only working with what I have here - Google turns up very little information, positive or negative, on Mr. Webb; this is probably because, much like an "undistinguished British aristocrat", he's a very minor public figure; if he were to run for President with the full backing of his party it's very doubtful he would achieve 10,000 votes - partly because very few people are aware of any such thing as a CPUSA and very few of those aware support their various policies. I would prefer more biographical information and less political information, but the only stuff I can find on him is his placing defeating the "right-wing" forces in government as a top priority, his being born in Detroit and elected to the CPUSA leadership as described.

The stuff on his policies is straight from the horse's mouth - an interview found on Google search for "Sam Webb" biography, which I don't want to bother looking for right now, but I'm pretty sure it's in the first page - and I would have included the other stuff he said, but it was mostly mulling on the need to adapt Marxism to the 21st century with no actual delineations of policy.

If anyone can find a better, more biographical source, I'd be happy to see an article rewritten using it; as I'm not particularly interested in the man or his policies outside of simply providing complete information to Wikipedia, I'm afraid I can't be of much further help. 68.96.162.252 09:06, 7 August 2005 (UTC)

Regarding his daughter: the information is unsourced. For all we know, she is a excellent teacher, a supporter of Dubya, and was dismissed because she had a wart on her nose. Fred Bauder 22:43, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

No, I had Ms. Julia Webb for English class in 10th grade. She was terrible. As a quick anecdote, she once miscalculated a kid's grade and failed him. He had to attend all of summer school before returning to find out his average was, in fact, a C.

This may explain why I couldn't find a source for the information. Your personal experiences and observations, however accurate and insightful, cannot serve as a source for our purposes, see Wikipedia:No original research, Wikipedia:Verifiability and Wikipedia:Reliable sources. There is also the question of why information about a person who is not a public figure is being added to Wikipedia. Or what the failures of his daughter have to do with him. Are you responsible for your relatives? I hope you bask in their reflected glory, but that is not always the case. Fred Bauder 14:53, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wow there's some people still writing discussion for Sam Webb

Wow there's some people still writing discussion for Sam Webb... Communist Party USA is dead.. sorry for them.

...The Communist Party was never alive in the USA to begin with. It held a little power from time to time, but the only party with any connection to it that did well was the Socialist Party. Webb's party is, unless something has transpired of which I am unaware, as alive as it ever was. ..

CUPSA was alive and well in the USA and funded by the USSR for decades! And Sam Webb is NOT a politician, he (thankfully) never held public office.
