Samuel Irving Newhouse, Sr.

Samuel Irving Newhouse, Sr. (1895 - 1979) was a U.S. broadcasting businessman, magazine and newspaper publisher.

Newhouse is the namesake of the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University and the founder of the current empire of Advance Publications, now run by his son Samuel Irving Newhouse, Jr.

One of the vessels of the Staten Island Ferry is also named after him.

His great-grandson, S.I. Newhouse IV, is featured in a documentary called Born Rich about the experience of growing up as the heir to one of the world's greatest fortunes.
