Samuel "Sam" Fisher (born July 10, 1982) is an Australian rules footballer in the Australian Football League.
The young defender was selected as a smokey in the 2003 AFL Draft, at pick no. 55. He was 21 years of age when first recruited from West Adelaide, and soon made his debut in 2004 when he forced his way into the side following some injuries to key defenders.
In 2005 he took a major step up and improved dramatically to hold down a spot of his own in the Saints' defence. In 2006 he easily became St. Kilda's most un-sung player, with not many people realising the damage he does in the back-line and the talent that he holds.
[edit] Golf career
Between the ages of 18 and 20 Fisher was a promising junior golfer. He once had a golf handicap of 1 but he decided against a full-time professional career in the sport, choosing to focus on football. After the 2005 season, Fisher's handicap had dropped to 5 because of football training taking up most of his time.
