From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Samson Babi Mululu Kisekka (June 23, 1912— October 25, 1999) was a Ugandan medical doctor, politician and diplomat. He was closely associated with Yoweri Museveni and served as prime minister and vice-president under him.
Kisekka was born in Mengo, Uganda and grew up near what would become Uganda's capital, Kampala. He attended the Makerere medical school and became a respected doctor. Eventually he entered politics and, disagreeing with Uganda's dictatorships, went into exile. After becoming an ally of Yoweri Museveni, he served as an international spokesman for his rebel group.
Immediately after becoming president of Uganda, on January 30, 1986 he appointed Kisekka to be the prime minister of Uganda. Kisekka served as prime minister for 5 years, until January 22, 1991 when he became vice-president. He served as vice-president until his retirement in 1994, but remained a presidential advisor until his death. He died at a hospital in London, England while awaiting heart surgery.
Kisekka was known as a hard-working politician who supported an end to ethnic tensions and a government without corruption. He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. He was married and had several children.
