Samantha Gene Brady, more commonly known as Sami Brady, is a fictional character on the television drama Days of our Lives.
Since early 1993, the role of Sami has been played by actress Alison Sweeney. On Days, Sami has come to epitomize the "soap bitch" through her scheming and lying temperament. Indeed, for most of her time on the show, she has been showcased as the primary female schemer.

[edit] Fictional character history
Sami's parents are Dr. Marlena Evans and Roman Brady. She was born on the program in October 1984, and was named after Marlena's dead twin sister, Samantha. Her middle name, Gene, comes from Marlena's friend Eugene Bradford. Sami has a twin brother, Eric Brady, who hasn't been seen for many years.
In 1992, the twins were sent to live in Colorado after her mother disappeared. When Sami returned to town rapidly aged in early 1993, she quickly attached herself to Austin Reed, who was her older sister Carrie's boyfriend. Also early in her stay, she witnessed her mother make love to John Black on top of the conference table at Titan Publishing. Sami was immediately crushed, and became alienated against John and her mother. She vowed to protect her father at all costs from finding out the truth. When Marlena found herself pregnant, Sami confided in her friend Jamie Caldwell. To forget about her pain, she actively pursued Austin Reed.
When Lucas Roberts first came to town, he was instantly attracted to Sami's older sister Carrie. In an attempt to break up the couple, Lucas and Sami started to date in order to make them jealous. It did not work and the two quickly stopped.
Sami was a candy-striper at the hospital in Salem, and quickly found out how to read a blood test. Sami concluded that Marlena's baby was John's and not Roman's, so she switched the blood test results so her father would not have to hurt.
Around this time, Sami met a model, Brandee, who kept her thin figure by means of bulimia. Sami thought that if she binged and purged, Austin would see how thin and beautiful she was, and that he would love her. She eventually hired Brandee to flirt with Austin, which culminated in a kiss witnessed by Carrie. Austin and Carrie broke up, and while Sami was happy, she began to feel guilty about hurting her sister. At this time Sami stopped trying to get Austin for herself, but was still bulimic. Now she didn't want to be thin for somebody else; she wanted it for herself, at any cost.
By this time, Marlena had given birth to a daughter, Isabella, or "Belle" for short. When Sami overheard that there were to be new blood tests on the child, she panicked and kidnapped the baby. She made arrangements to live at Jamie Caldwell's temporarily so she could find a couple to adopt the baby via the black market. John found out just in time and thwarted her plans. Scared, Sami booked a flight to Florida and tried to flee with Belle, but John caught her before she could board. When Roman found out about the kidnapping, he ordered Sami into counseling at the hospital. However, Belle never received another blood test, so Roman did not know Belle wasn't his child.
Marlena found out about Sami's bulimia and confronted her; in turn, Sami told Marlena that not only did she see her and John make love at Titan that night, she also knew Belle was not Roman's child. Marlena tried to comfort her daughter but she would have no part in it. Sami said she would promise her mother not to tell Roman about Belle, not because she wanted to aid Marlena, but because she didn't want to hurt her father.
On the day of Belle's christening, Marlena admitted that she had an affair with John. Stefano DiMera overheard Sami talking to Jamie about the affair, so he broke into her locker at the hospital, stole her diary, photocopied the pages in which Sami wrote about the affair, and showed them to Roman. When confronted, Sami admitted that it was all true; Marlena left Roman.
Eventually, an older friend of Carrie's, Alan Harris, showed interest in Sami. He was a bad influence on her, getting her drunk at college parties (she was only 15 at the time). One night, she offered to cook him dinner, and he asked her to pose for some "sexy pictures." When he asked her to take off her clothes, she refused; he got angry with her and raped her. Ashamed, Sami told nobody else but Jamie, and got a pregnancy and AIDS test in secret. Both came back negative.
Carrie and Marlena found out about the rape, and convinced her to press charges. Since she had waited a long time, there was no more physical evidence, and in two trials, the case was dismissed. Sami became a pariah at school, and no one would talk to her except for Jamie. In addition, a tabloid magazine printed a story calling Sami a liar. Humiliated, she distanced herself from Marlena and slapped Carrie's face, intent on making her sister pay for her shame.
Sami tried to lure Austin away from Carrie yet again, under the guise of playing the innocent victim. She set up what looked like another attack; Jamie called Austin, who rescued her and immediately took pity on her. Lucas, who had since tried to join forces with Sami, was disgusted and disowned her. Carrie suspected that Sami was crying wolf and refused to give him a telephone message from Sami, who was down at the docks. Alan had also found out that Sami was crying wolf, so he appeared at the pier that night with a gun, intent on raping her once again. Sami and Alan struggled with the gun and she managed to seize control of the pistol. Alan taunted her, saying she didn't have the guts to shoot him. Sami pulled the trigger and shot him in the groin. The tabloids got wind of the story and published an exposé with the headline "Sami Brady Bobbittizes Alan Harris!"
Before Alan left town, he told Carrie that Sami had been crying wolf the whole time. Furious, Carrie slapped Sami's face; Austin walked in, became angry with Carrie, and broke up with her. Sensing opportunity, Sami befriended a nurse who spoke of a drug that could give a man amnesia after making love, so he would not remember what happened. While Austin was out partying with friends, Sami drugged a beer at his apartment, had him drink it, and had him make love to her. Sami was wearing Carrie's perfume so Austin had assumed, in his drunken state, that he was having sex with Carrie. In the morning, Austin was horrified. Sami told him that he had confessed his love to her but he told her that was not true. Austin swore Sami to secrecy that she would not tell Carrie about that night. Earlier, however, Sami had made love with Lucas Roberts, and was now pregnant with his child.
Marlena, ill in the hospital with anemia, told Sami to sleep with Austin again (in reality, at this time, Marlena had become possessed by the devil). When Sami tried to seduce Austin, he made it clear that he only liked Sami as a friend. Ashamed, Sami informed Jamie that she was leaving town, and boarded a train for Los Angeles. Sami was missing for many months, and came back the day of Carrie and Austin's wedding (they had since reconciled). She was waiting to object to the marriage during the ceremony, but Mickey Horton found her and announced to everyone that she was alive. Sami pretended to faint and informed Carrie that Austin had slept with her, and now she was "carrying his child." Although it was a lie, it made Carrie very angry with Austin, and Carrie called the wedding off.
After the birth of Will and the reveal that he was Lucas's son due to their one night of lovemaking in the Photo Lab, Sami and Austin parted ways and she became engaged to Franco Kelly. On the night of their wedding Sami found out Franco had cheated on her with a stripper and declared "I'm going to kill him." Later, Sami found Franco's body, shot dead. She then fainted and subsequently was unable to remember discovering Franco's body. Lucas had actually killed him in Kate's defense, but Kate planted the gun on Sami and thus Sami was convicted and sentenced to death. While strapped to the table, moments away from receiving lethal injection, it was revealed that Sami did not kill Franco. She was eventually cleared and released. Lucas had arranged for a terminally ill criminal to take the blame, and although Sami eventually learned the truth, Salem at large does not know that Lucas was responsible for Franco's death.
Sami became engaged to Brandon Walker and with his help regained full custody of Will; before Sami regained custody, it was Kate who convinced Lucas to take him away from Sami.
Sami was engaged to Lucas Roberts in 2004 and they planned to marry. Because Kate Roberts drugged her and with the help of Eugenia put her in bed with Brandon, Lucas walked in an assumed the worst. The engagement was called off, then Sami dressed like a man, "Stan" to prove her innocence (actually covering for Alison Sweeney, who was on maternity leave), but in the process, she managed to do several misdeeds and was unknowingly working for Tony DiMera. Eventually, she was able to prove that Kate was lying and Lucas proposed to her again. At their wedding, Kate exposed Sami's secret and Sami was once again alone. Austin gave her a shoulder to cry on and Sami believed that she was falling in love with Austin again. However, she also knew that Carrie was his true love, so when Carrie eventually came back to town, she and Lucas set it up where Austin would buy out Carrie's company, HighStyle, and that would, in turn, make Carrie hate Austin and allow Lucas to be with Carrie and Sami, with Austin. One day when Carrie was admitted to the hospital, Sami blackmailed Lexie. She threatened to tell Abe about Lexie's affair with Tek if she didn't come up with some reason why Carrie can't be with Austin. Lexie soon told Carrie that any child that she and Austin would conceive would have congenital defects, driving Carrie to pick Lucas over Austin.
Sami was eventually with Austin and shortly after he popped the question to her, she and Austin received a new neighbor, an English race car driver named E.J. Wells, who was immediately smitten for Sami. They soon developed a close friendship and a guilty Sami confided in E.J. regarding her secret, after receiving several notes and calls from a mysterious gloved hand. She received one the day she was to marry Austin, but called it off to avoid humiliation. E.J. comforted her and they kissed for the first time. The next day, Will didn't show up for school and Sami feared that he was kidnapped, so she told Lucas, Austin and Carrie about the notes she received (but not the reasoning behind it). Sami and Lucas went on TV, courtesy of Mythic Communications, to plea to the child abductor to return Will to safety. However, Will came home and revealed that he actually ran away from home to avoid embarrassment at school after Sami's latest wedding disaster. Realizing that Will needed a stable environment, Lucas and Will moved in with Sami (while Will was gone, Lucas discovered that Carrie cheating on him with Austin).
Soon enough, the infamous gloved hand slid another note under Sami's door and despite her efforts to keep it to herself, Lucas picked it up and discovered the truth about Sami's blackmail. She and Carrie got into a fight and Carrie swore to tell everyone about this sick deed. Lucas and Will moved out again and her entire family abandoned her, for they were too caught up in their own lives to worry about Sami's life. She found comfort once again with E.J., who she believes is the only person to understand her and accept her for who she is.
Unknown to Sami, E.J. came to Salem to bring grief to the "good people of Salem" (especially the Bradys) as well as in cahoots with Kate, whom he actually slept with. In his conversations with Kate, it was also revealed that he was simply trying to seduce Sami on Kate's behalf, to keep her away from Kate's sons, Lucas and Austin. However, E.J. also told Kate that he wanted Sami to conceive his child because he is very concerned with lineage and believes that Sami is the perfect woman to continue his family line.
Sami and E.J. have a couple of dates but at the same time Lucas is making moves toward a reconciliation. After Sami found out that E.J. was sleeping with Kate, she broke off any involvement with him. But Sami was forced to act like she was interested in E.J. again on her uncle Bo's request because the police were conducting a search on E.J.'s apartment. E.J. assumed that she wanted to continue their relationship but Sami wanted to try things out with Lucas again. This led to a near rape situation until Lucas arrived on the scene and forced E.J. to leave.
Sami and Lucas have rekindled their love in spite of Kate and are working slowly to rebuild it. Only time will tell but Lucas is truly the love of Sami's life.
Sami and Lucas decided to go away on a romantic trip. After there car broke down they went to an abandoned cabin. The two made love for the first time in over a year. Soon after they were talking about there future when the roof caved in and trapped Lucas in the rubble. Sami tried desperately to help him, but she couldn't lift the beam. She decided to go find help. Unfortunately Sami found help, E.J. Wells was on the run after having shot Sami's step father John Black. E.J. held a gun to Sami and told her she had to get him past the police. E.J. was upset with Sami for luring him into the trap set by John Black and the police. After Sami got E.J. past the police, she begged him to help her with Lucas. E.J. told Sami that the only way he would help her was if she slept with him.
E.J. informed Sami that his father Stefano had instructed him to plant the Dimera seed in a Brady woman. Sami was disgusted by E.J.'s request and she cursed him. In the end Sami realized that she had no choice but to agree to E.J.'s indecent proposal. Because Lucas's life was at risk, Sami had no choice but to let E.J. force himself on her. E.J. frequently refers to it as their night of love, but Sami has frequently reminded him that since he forced her, it was rape.
After the incident, E.J. taunted Sami and told her she was incredible and that he would remember her always. He said that he might have to tell Lucas about their little tryst. Sami viciously slapped E.J. and told him to never speak of this again, saying she would find a way to live with what he did to her. After threats were exchanged, E.J. finally accompanied Sami to the cabin and saved Lucas' life. He then kissed Sami one final time and told her that he loved her.
On January 23, 2007, Sami told Lucas that she was pregnant, leaving out the fact that he might not be the father.
