Samaná English is a variety of the English language in the Dominican Republic. Samaná English is spoken on the Samaná peninsula of the island of Hispaniola. Samaná English is spoken by over 10,000 persons. The speakers of Samaná English are the descendants of slaves of African origin, who came from the United States in the 19th Century. Samaná English is variously described a creole language, a dialect of English, or a linguistic entity fitting neither category.
