[edit] Career

Soliman turned pro at the Cruiserweight level in 1997 at the age of 23. Without a lot of connections, and lacking an easy path to a championship, Soliman fought 12 rounds for the Australian Cruiserweight Championship in only his second fight. Soliman has worked hard fighting in remote locations around the world, to make his name by taking on only the best available opponents. He finally gained a worldwide audience when he defeated Raymond Joval in impressive fashion on July 17, 2004.

Seeking revenge for a split decision loss earlier in his career, Soliman fought, and lost, a rematch against fellow Australian Anthony Mundine in March of 2007. Soliman moved up from his normal 160lbs middleweight division to take on Mundine in the Super Middleweight division, for the vacant WBA Super Middleweight Title. After suffering a knockdown in round 2, Mundine ended the fight in the 9th round, by knocking Soliman down three times.[2]

Sam Soliman is trained by Dave Hedgecock and based in Melbourne, Australia where he lives with his wife Maria.
