When Cole realizes that he must eventually give in to his evil destiny, he attacks the Charmed Ones in the hope that they will vanquish him forever and end his suffering. Meanwhile, Paige gets her first charge as a Whitelighter and is shocked when the angry, self-pitying man she is supposed to protect turns out to be the father she never knew.
In the end the Charmed Ones creates a potion to destroy Cole once and for all, though before throwing the last of the 3 potions, Pheobe realizes Cole's plan to help them kill himself. He though uses his power and pulls the potion from her hand, combining it with the two others. Despite creating a large explosion, Cole remained unscratched.

- Another title used by The WB in advertisements was Daddy Dearest.
- This is the second appearance of the character Sam, who previously appeared in the episode P3 H2O.
- Actress Niki Botelho, who plays the Elf Nanny, later reprises her role in the episodes Oh My Goddess Pt 1, Oh My Goddess Pt 2 and The Power of Three Blondes. She is also mentioned in the season 7 episode, The Bare Witch Project, but not seen, it is not clear when she actually stops working for Piper.
- Piper's baby, who is still in the womb, now creates a force field around Piper making her invulnerable.
- Phoebe touches the Darklighter arrow in this episode. In the season one episode Love Hurts, Leo was not sure if the Darklighter arrows were poisonous to the sisters as well, so Prue needed to use her powers to remove it. Later in season four's Charmed and Dangerous, Piper was able to touch the arrow that almost killed Leo. Paige, however, is half-whitelighter, so Piper did not allow her to touch the poisoned arrow.
- This is the first appearance of the Avatars, who reappear in the 100th Episode and throughout Season Seven and one is summoned in Season 8 episode, Vaya Con Leos.
- In this episode Cole goes back to being evil. He has apparently gone insane from a combination of losing Pheobe and his evil demonic powers influence. This transition to evil also seems more voluntary then his last two: he was born evil the first time and the second time he was possessed by The Source.
