Sam Durant

Sam Durant (1961 - ) is a Los Angeles based contemporary artist who works in a variety of media.


Durant was born in Boston, Massachusetts and attended the Massachusetts College of Art and the California Institute of the Arts.

Durant's work often deals with the conflicts between differing classes, cultures and value systems. His work of the 90s was inspired largely by the work of Robert Smithson, an artist well known for his interest in history and entropy.

Durant participated in the 2004 Whitney Biennial and the 2003 Venice Biennale.

Durant is also a current faculty member of Cal Arts.
