Salwa
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Salwa is a suburb of the Hawalli governorate in the country of Kuwait. Salwa borders Rumaithiya to the north and Messila to the south. Salwa is a residential area with a population close to 36,108. Salwa is divided into 12 blocks (areas). Salwa has its own shopping center, which includes a supermarket and several restaurants (including Burger King and Starbucks coffee). To the east (across the Cooperative Road), Salwa overlooks the Persian Gulf. Salwa, like all suburbs in Kuwait, has its own government-run clinic. A McDonald's has recently been built in the public park in block 11.
While there has been an effort by the Municipality to move schools out of Salwa, currently a number of foreign schools remain in the area. The schools include the Kuwait English School, British School of Kuwait and the Oxford Academy. Several public schools (elementary and secondary school) for boys and girls are in Salwa.
The houses in Salwa are mostly 2-3 stories high. A large number of western expatriates in Kuwait live in Salwa. Congestion remains a major problem in Salwa. Most houses do not have adequate parking for their residents. Therefore, people tend to park their cars on the roads. This has resulted in heavily congested roads.
