Saltwater River Rail Bridge

The Saltwater River Rail Bridge is the oldest metal bridge in Victoria. It consists of many wrought iron girders.

It was constructed, in 1856, as part of the establishment of the railway to Bendigo and later Sydney.

The bridge crosses the Maribyrnong River one km east of the Western Ring Road crossing. The wertical drop from the surrounding volcanic plain to the river is over 100m.
