Salt Lamps are created from Natural Salt Crystals, typically mined in the Himalayan mountain region. The largest producers of this type of Salt product are located in Pakistan, with Poland and Iran also offering variations.

A Salt Lamp is created by chipping and carving the Salt Crystal chunks that are removed from the Salt mines and crafting them into various natural and Geometric shapes for the consumer market. The pieces can be crafted to form almost any imaginable idea.

After the shape of the Salt "sculpture" has been decided, and the initial chipping has been done to reduce the weight and size of the raw Salt chunk, a hole is machine drilled partway through the Salt to allow for the insertion of either an incandescent bulb, or in the case of a Salt Tea Light, a votive style candle.

Salt Lamps are very popular in Europe and are just now gaining popularity in the United States. First marketed here as a Negative Ion generating Healing Aid, for conditions that include Asthma and other Respiratory disorders. Current claims have expanded to include pollen reduction, smoke reduction and as a method of reducing the radiation from Computer Monitors. Salt lamps have been attributed with various healing and cleansing powers, as have many other crystals.

The Natural Salt itself is beautiful, as nice as any mined Crystal, and when illuminated the Salt Lamps and Salt Tea Lights display an amazing array of colors, from Light Peach to Deep Red, along with natural inclusions and striations. They also come in many shapes and sizes. No two salt lamps will ever be the same.

Salt lamps used to only be available by going directly to the salt mines and having a piece machined to take home. Today salt lamps can be purchased in almost any country and are available from sellers like The Salt of the Earth,Natural Salt Crystal Lamps, Himalayan Salt, Full Moon Gift,Salt Lamp Creations, The Himalayan Salt Shop, Chi Evolution,and Salt Lamp. Local health food stores and wellness centers are known to carry these mystical lamps as well.
