Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Cauldron Park

The Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Cauldron Park is a plaza located at the south end of Rice-Eccles Stadium on the campus of the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah. Rice-Eccles Stadium was the site of the Opening and Closing ceremonies of the XIX Olympic Winter Games.

[edit] Cauldron
The park contains the cauldron that was lit during the duration of the games. It was created by WET Design of Universal City, California.
The cauldron was moved from the top of the south edge of the stadium to the plaza just south of the stadium. It is still operational and is lit on special occasions, including the opening weekend of the 2006 Winter Olympics.
The cauldron is surrounded by a reflecting pool and cascades.
Memories from each day of the Salt Lake 2002 Games are included on large outdoor panels south of the cauldron.
[edit] Hoberman arch
The striking Hoberman Arch was moved from its original location at Olympic Medals Plaza to the Olympic Cauldron Park. The arch is lit with various colors at night. It's located just outside the retaining fence and faces west.

The visitor center consists of an art gallery, theater and video viewing area.

A 10-minute multi-screen movie of highlights from the 2002 Winter Olympics is featured in the theatre within the visitor center.
