Salsa Lizano

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Salsa Lizano is a deep brown Costa Rican condiment developed by the Lizano company in 1920, which is now a product of Knorr. It contains onions, carrots, cauliflower, cucumber and chili. Slightly sweet and with a hint of spiciness, Salsa Lizano is often used in the same way that North Americans would use ketchup.

The ingredients include water, sugar, salt, vegetables (onions, carrots, cauliflower, cucumbers), spices, acetic acid, pepper, starch, hydrolyzed corn protein, mustard, tumeric, sodium benoate, sodium bisulfite and sulfur dioxide. Many Costa Rican dishes are prepared with Lizano Sauce. It is commonly used with gallo pinto and tamales.
