Sally Rogers (The Dick Van Dyke Show character)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sally Rogers, played by Rose Marie, was a television character on the 1960s sitcom The Dick Van Dyke Show. She was one third of the comedy writing team for the fictional TV variety show The Alan Brady Show, working with Rob Petrie and Buddy Sorell. When not working, Sally spent much of her time searching for a husband. Though she maintained an on-and-off relationship with nerdy Herman Glimpshire (in a 2004 Dick Van Dyke Show reunion special, it was revealed that Sally and Herman eventually married), she occasionally dated other men, particularly if they looked like "husband material."

She shared an apartment with her cat, Mr. Henderson. A talented singer, Sally was occasionally called upon to entertain at dinner parties. She would also recount various philosophical statements by her beloved Aunt Agnes, all of which made no sense whatsoever.

[edit] Statements made originally by Sally's Aunt Agnes

  • "If your heart is where the sky is bluest, then the sound of winter's twilight will be your friend."
  • "It is wise for a poor man to choose the weather, but it's folly for a rich man to choose a poor man."
  • "Sally, you can't tell a book if the title's covered."
  • "What's in a name? A cat by any other name still wouldn't smell like a rose."
  • "You may have the world at your feet, but that don't stop the corns from hurtin'."
  • "Man is like the drifting snow. It comes down in small flurries and piles up against the door, and before long you can't get out of the house."
  • "It's better to get a rose from a casual friend than to get a can of succotash from a hoodlum."
  • "You can choose your friends, but you can't choose your relatives. So choose friends with a lot of money."
  • "The only true nominees are the people from Nomin."
