Sally Forth (syndicated strip)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sally Forth is also the name of an earlier comic strip by Wally Wood.

Sally Forth is a comic strip created by Greg Howard in 1982, focusing on the life of a mother at home and work. Sally's name is a play on words - "to sally forth" means to set out on an adventure.

Howard, after almost ten years, was joined by Craig Macintosh, who began doing the drawing. In 1999, Howard quit writing as well and turned the strip over to Francesco Marciuliano. Marciuliano and Macintosh continue publishing the series with King Features Syndicate distribution.

[edit] Characters

Sally Forth
Main character. A mid-level professional working woman with a husband and daughter. Has a quirky habit around Easter of biting the ears off of chocolate bunnies, to the dismay of her family.
Ted Forth
Sally's husband. Apparently a professional working man though his job is unspecified. As Marciuliano has settled into his role as writer, he has started to play meta jokes with this fact: several strips in 2006 and 2007 alluded to the fact that no one really knows what Ted's job is.
Hilary Forth
Sally's daughter, featured as a pre-teen.
Ralph
Sally's former boss. Was fired and reduced to working at a fast food restaurant, but in 2006 returned to be co-manager (with Sally) of their department.
Faye
Hilary's best friend. She is gothic and somewhat rude to adults. She and Hilary attempted to start a band once.
Kitty
The Forths' cat.
Alice
One of Sally's co-workers.
Jeff
Sally's current boss.
Sally's Mother
Very critical of the Forth family as well as most other people (like Faye). She is not liked at all by the entire family.
