Saline High School, located in Saline, Michigan, is said to be the largest high school in the state of Michigan. The school moved to its 46,152 m² (500,000sq-ft.) facility on roughly 81 hectares (200 acres) of land on Industrial Drive in August 2004. As of March 2007 there were about 1,896 students.

In September 2005 the school had to be evacuated due to eight students fainting for unknown reasons the first day. The first student to pass out was Melissa Merritt, currently a University of Michigan student. At first, authorities suspected a senior prank, since no underclassmen were among the victims the first day. The cause is still unknown, although state and school administration officially stated the cause as being the "line-of-sight" phenomenon, even though the students almost simultaneously fainted in different parts of the school. More information on evacuations.

[edit] School information

Saline High School follows a system of block scheduling. The year is divided into two semesters, with four blocks each semester. Most classes take up one block; others, such as Cosmetics, occupy multiple blocks. Most AP classes last all year.

The typical day at Saline High School starts at the 7:44 am bell. Students go to their first hour class. They leave at 9:14 am. Their second hour class begins at 9:20 am. Their second hour class ends at 10:54 am. Their third hour class begins at 11:00. However, lunches get out during third hour classes. Students are either in A, B, C or D lunch. The lunch period is thirty minutes, and students then must return to class. Students at A lunch go straight to the cafeteria, while others go to their classes and wait for the bell to ring signifying the different lunch periods, and D lunch proceeds to its fourth hour after lunch. Student’s fourth hour class beings at 1:00 pm. Students are released from school at 2:35 pm.
