Salvatore "Sal the Stockbroker" Governale (born October 24, 1968) is an American radio personality who currently works as a writer on The Howard Stern Show. He previously worked for brokerage firms (hence his nickname), while frequently calling Stern's show. Sal established himself by harassing Stern producer Gary Dell'Abate. He still regularly torments Dell'Abate daily by charging into Gary's office wearing a monkey suit whenever Dell'Abate is on-camera answering to Howard Stern for some minor mistake. Once in the office, Governale may also spray Silly String or dump confetti on Dell'Abate, and on October 31, 2006 Governale rubbed his anus on the office's doorknob. In addition to writing for the show, Sal made Supertwink: The Movie for Howard Stern On Demand. He is currently performing stand-up comedy with The Killers of Comedy Tour along with other show cast mates at various clubs across the United States.

[edit] Early life and pre-Stern Show

As a teenager, Sal made a rap CD under the name "G Man". Sal claimed the company that produced his CD scammed him out of thousands of dollars.

In his younger days, Sal was a member of the break-dancing group "The Circuit Breakers."

Since he joined the Howard Stern Show, Governale has engaged in what many would consider homosexual acts, usually with fellow staff member Richard Christy.

  • On September 12, 2006 Bubba the Love Sponge came into the studio and gave Richard Christy 100mg of Viagra and a Cialis. Christy then revealed that he thought that 'Spice Boy' from "The Bubba the Love Sponge Show" was attractive, then 'Spice Boy' threw pennies, a nickel, and a shoe at Christy's erect penis, while Sal whispered into Christy's ear "Take your dick out and I'll spit on it." Christy then let Sal spit on his penis and said "I do it all for the show." At this point, Stern staff member Artie Lange left the studio. Later that day, Sal tried to stick a vibrator wand in Bubba's and then Brent's anus.
  • During the Artie Lange roast, Governale and Christy had their temperatures taken rectally by Robin Quivers. Governale and Christy held hands during the "examination" and then chased each other around the studio with their soiled thermometers (which are now rumored to be taped to the door of their office).
  • Sal once said he'd let a man have sex in his ear, let High Pitch Eric defecate on his chest, and then kiss his balls, in order to win a TV.
  • During a Stern Show broadcast on August 24, 2006, a nude Governale controlled the "man jack", a male-oriented sex toy, while Christy attempted to penetrate the device. Adding to the homosexuality of the action, Sal had spit into the area where Christy inserted his penis.
  • On June 14, 2005, Sal put a banana through the fly of his pants, spat on it, and Richard Christy sucked it. Christy did this in order to meet one of his rock idols, Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters. He had the option of doing that or being teabagged by Sal. [1]
  • Admitted to sending Christy pictures of his uncircumcised penis.
  • Collaborated with Richard Christy to make the homosexual-themed movie Supertwink, in which they starred and co-wrote and directed.
  • On April 24, 2006, Sal offered to insert his penis into the empty eye socket of a man missing an eye. The act was ultimately aborted when a doctor alerted them that this could kill the eyeless man.
  • On January 16, 2006 during the Revelations Game (a game where cast members revealed secrets about themselves), Sal revealed that at 14 he once hid in a linen closet and masturbated while watching his aunt and cousin defecating. Sal also revealed in the "tie-breaker round" that he once ejaculated into an ex-girlfriend's beverage and served it to her at a club as a means of revenge. Governale was the first person to be censored on Howard's Sirius Satellite Radio show when he revealed details about the linen closet incident.

Sal's sexual confusions may stem from being abused as a child. On the September 12, 2006 Stern 'Wrap Up Show', he revealed that when he was 11 years old his 28-year-old aunt forced him to expose his penis on multiple occasions and once molested him. In addition to sexual abuse, Sal also revealed he had been physically abused by his father.

[edit] Other controversies

  • Sal admitted on the air on September 12, 2006 that while staying at Stern Fan Network website operator Mutt's house that he had smelled Mutt's sixteen-year-old daughter's soiled panties after finding them in the bathroom.
  • Sal once thought he had been caught masturbating at work. He remorsefully confessed the incident to his boss. In reality, no one had witnessed the incident and Sal was almost fired.
  • On the May 23, 2006 Stern 'Wrap Up Show' following Miss Howard Stern's appearance, Governale stated that Miss Howard Stern's bi-racial daughter was conceived as a result of drinking and doing drugs, and added that white women would typically not have a half-black child without being inebriated. The Stern Show then arranged a prank call by a phony Sirius human relations staffer, who requested that Governale make an apology tape that was to be played on the next day's 'Wrap Up Show'. The scheme was concocted by Gary Dell'Abate and the rest of the show staffers without Sal's knowledge. Howard revealed the joke to him the next day on the air, where a very large laugh was enjoyed at his expense. This event spawned the then oft-played phrase "Hi, this is Sal Governale," the introduction Sal chose for his apology.
  • Another report by The Smoking Gun found that Sal was involved in a secret $45,000 "pay-for-plugs" arrangement with an Internet firm, in which he offered to promote the company on Howard Stern's radio show in 2000. Sal acknowledged that he never told anyone from the show about the arrangement, which became public after Sal sued the company for breach of contract and $200,000 in punitive damages.
  • On January 29, 2007, Sal angered his boss Howard Stern when reports came through that he was continuing to use the "Horse-Face" joke when referring to Howard Stern's Girlfriend Beth Ostrosky when performing at various stand up comedy clubs. The "Horse-Face" comment along with Sal's impression of a horse whinnying was first uttered by Sal at a roast on the Howard Stern show in 2006. Howard became visibly angered after hearing this news. Sal had spoken to Beth personally and promised to stop using the insult. This revelation caused Howard to lambast Sal, pushing for him to come clean, ending with the former stock-broker admitting that he was indeed a coward.

[edit] Killers of Comedy Incident

  • On Friday, March 23rd, 2007, during an appearance at the Lakeland Center in Lakeland, Florida with Gary Dell'Abate, Richard Christie, Reverend Bob Levy, and Artie Lange, Sal was mocking Dell'abate onstage by wearing a mask of Dell'Abate's face and dancing. Unable to see properly, he veered too close to the edge of the stage and fell an estimated seven feet. The drop caused him to break his left wrist in two places, left him with three bruised ribs, and a bruised left eye.[4]
