Nadiadwala started as an AC Technician and than later worked as spot boy and graduated to become production assistant in his uncle's production house before establishing his own production company- Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment. The production company have churned out many hits including Judwaa, Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega and Mujhse Shaadi Karogi. His recently released film Jaan-E-Mann stars Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Preity Zinta all of whom he has worked with before. The film released in October 2006 but was a box office failure due to its release coinciding with Don.

Sajid, as he claimed in an interview, is a certified Chartered Account but sources close to him say he had flunked in his XII exams.

His family including A.A Nadiadwala and A.K Nadiadwala were successful film producers in the 1960s and 1970s. Firoz A. Nadiadwala is his cousin who is also a successful producer.

Sajid secretly married Bollywood actress Divya Bharti on 20 May 1992. Their marriage was tragically short lived when Divya fell to her death from her apartment building on 5 April 1993. The circumstances surrounding her death was suspicious but nothing was proved. Her death remains a mystery to this day. It is alleged that her death was not a suicide but a homicide. One source believes Sajid had links with the Mumbai Mafia and was involved with Divya's mysterious death but this has never been proven.[1]According to news reports Sajid had fainted when he found out about her death the very next day. He fainted again soon after he lit her funeral pyre.[2] He has since remarried to Wardha Khan, a former journalist. [3]. They have a son together. [4]

He dedicates all his films to Divya's memory by showing a brief picture of her before the film's credits roll.
