Saito Mokichi

Saito Mokichi (斎藤茂吉 Saitō Mokichi; 1882 - 1953) was a Japanese poet of Taisho period, the member of Araragi school, and a psychiatrist. The novelist Kita Morio is his second son.
Born in a village in Yamagata Prefecture, he studied under Ito Sachio, a writer initiating magazines like Araragi. By the time of his death, he wrote 17 collections of poems and 17907 poems.
He was the family doctor of Akutagawa Ryunosuke, and assisted in his suicide.
