St. Julian's was opened on November 25, 1932, on the site of an 18th century palace, built by José Francisco da Cruz, Treasurer to King D. José I, making it the oldest English-speaking school in Portugal.
It is considered to be one of the best private schools in Portugal (Primary and Secondary, since St. Julian's is both), where several national and international famous figures have their children studying, as it boasts of its beautiful buildings and green areas. Celebrities who have attended the school include for example Bryan Adams, the famous singer.
At present, the headmaster is Mr. David Smith, the Primary School principal Mr. Robert Bienkowski, and the Secondary School Principal Mr. Nick Connelly. The school has a team of student prefects from the International Baccalaureate program as well as a head girl and a head boy who change every year. This year's head girl is Araby McClintock and head boy Andre Kong.
