Saint Francis School in Honolulu, Hawai‘i is located in the neighborhood of Mānoa next to the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. It is a Roman Catholic school for girls in grades 6-12.
[edit] History
The school started at Saint Francis Convent in 1924 to train young women to become nurses to work with sufferers of Hansen's disease. It was founded in memory of Mother Marianne Cope, who came to Hawai‘i in 1883 with six other Franciscan nuns of the Sisters of the Third Order of Saint Francis in answer to the call for aid of victims of this disease by King David Kalākaua. [1] In late 2005, the school announced that it would become a co-ed school.
