Saint-François, Quebec
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Saint-François (before Saint-François-de-Sales) is the second largest neighbourhood of Laval after Duvernay. It was a separate city until the 1965 municipal mergers.
Agriculture occupies most of the land area. Located at the extreme east of Jesus island (Laval), it is bounded on the:
- North by the Rivière des Mille Îles;
- South by the Rivière des Prairies;
- West by the neighbourhood of Auteuil
- South by the neighbourhood of Duvernay.
A residential agglomeration formed in the southeast of the neighbourhood. Construction of a bridge (future Quebec Autoroute 25) that would link with Montreal has been controversial. Ecologists oppose it because the bridge would destroy a wet microclimate where rare species live.
