Saint Jean à Pathmos

Saint Jean, apôtre et évangéliste, exilé dans l'île de Pathmos lors des persécutions de Domitien, y rédigea l'Apocalypse. En compagnie de l'aigle, son symbole, Jean écrit, assis au centre de l'îlot. La végétation frêle se détache sur un paysage fantastique à la perspective atmosphérique où se fondent en dégradé l'eau, le ciel et la montagne. Les initiales et le nom d'Étienne Chevalier apparaissent dans le cartouche de gauche et en contrebas sur un écu porté par deux putti, parmi des branches d'oranger.
