Sagittal plane

The sagittal plane of the human body is any imaginary slice made from the top of the head down, running parallel to the medial or midsagittal plane (sagittal plane running through the middle). cutting the body into two halves of varying proportion. It runs from the nose to the back of the head, unlike the coronal plane, which runs perpendicularly, from ear to ear. In the diagram right, the pink axis is the mid-sagittal plane, however this diagram does not depict the anatomical position (standing straight up, arms down, palms and feet facing forward). Differences between the two halves are found primarily in the heart and other internal organs, but subtle differences can also be seen in the two halves of the human face. Try holding a pocket mirror with its edge against the center of your own photo, showing one side reflected to make a whole face.
