Sagartians

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sagartians were ancient Iranian (Aryan) tribes, dwelling in Iranian plateau, whose exact location is unknown, but possibly south of Alborz Mountains and north of Yazd in central Iran.

According to Herodotus they were related to Persian group of Iranians. however there is evidence that one of their rulers boasted of a Median lineage.

[edit] Sagartians in Media

About 600 BC some Sagartian tribes settled in parts of what is today called Kurdistan and aided army of Cyaxares, Median King, in capturing Nineveh.

Some connenct them to the Zikirti dwelling in north of Zagros mentioned by Assyrian King Sargon in 800 BC.

Today, the Kurdish tribes of Zangana and Chigini can trace their ancestry to these ancient settlers who have also imparted their name to the Zagros mountains.
