Sagarika

Sagarika ("oceanic") is a submarine-launched missile under development in India since 1991.
While the Sagrika has been rumored to be a cruise missile. According to U.S. intelligence, it is a ballistic missile with a range of about 300 kilometers. However, it is reported that India wants to extend the range of the missile to 700 nautical miles/1,300 kilometers for 500Kg, 2500km for lesser warhead and has approached Israel and Russia for technical assistance. The Sagarika has not yet been test-launched. The test launch is expected in 2008 and deployment is not expected until 2010 or later.
It is possible that the the Sagarika's deployment may be linked to India's efforts to complete the Advanced Technology Vessel (ATV), a nuclear-powered submarine project that has been under way since at least 1985 and is expected to carry the missile. Until this time the Brahmos cruise missile with a range of 290Km will be deployed.
