The discussion for deletion of this article shows how decisions on what to keep and what not on Wikipedia is completely arbitrary. Look at this: "Speedy delete as patent nonsense. Tempshill 22:34, 24 October 2005 (UTC)" (!). SIL is one of the latest incorporations to industrial safety and it is producing big changes in the (industrial) world. It is one of the most important concepts in safety standards written by ISA, IEC, and other organizations. Good or bad, it cannot be ignored by any encyclopedia.... I cannot imagine how many other important articles have been deleted just because Tempshill or any other selfish and uninformed people look at themselves like the only source of knowledge and wisdom. 190.48.227.38 12:33, 3 April 2006 (UTC)

The discussion wasn't quite as abitrary, selfish and uninformed as it might appear. The version of the article they were voting on was expressed in (ahem) considerably less professional language than the current revision. Take a look at the earliest edit by anonymous author 193.160.141.5 (go to the Article page, click on the History tab, then click on either of the edits dated 20 October 2005). The text you'll see is a rant, and that's what they were discussing and voting on.

There's much to be said for the VFD process this page went through, because it resulted in the current rewrite.

I think you've jumped to conclusions based on looking at the VFD and the current version of the page. This is understandable if you're new to Wikipedia. But if you're an old hand who blew a fuse, I'd say you owe someone an apology for your own comments. Ecb 21:42, 3 April 2006 (UTC)
