Saffron bun
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A saffron bun is a rich yeast dough bun that is flavoured with saffron and cinnamon or nutmeg and contains currants. Larger versions of the saffron bun baked in a loaf tin are known as saffron cake. Traditionally the buns were baked on sycamore leaves the bun and dusted with powdered sugar. This bun originates from Cornwall and maybe known as a "revel bun" which is a special occasion bread to be found at celebrations, such as anniversary feasts (revels), celebrating the dedication of a church. In the West of Cornwall large saffron buns are also known as "tea treat buns" and are associated with Methodist Sunday School outings or activities.
