[edit] Plot

Lorelai struggles to decide whether to accept Max's proposal. When she tells Luke, he asks her lots of questions about her and Max's plans once they get married, which scares Lorelai. She calls Max to ask him about the things Luke brought up and winds up accepting his proposal.

Lane is upset because her parents are sending her to Korea for the summer and won't tell her when she's coming back. She is afraid that her parents intend to send her to Korea permanently.

Rory finishes in the top 3% of her class, and her grandparents arrange a special celebratory dinner for her. Since they tell her she can bring a friend, she invites Dean. At first Emily is very cold towards Dean, but she warms to him. However, Richard is very unfriendly towards Dean. During dinner, he interrogates Dean, and he and Rory argue over whether Dean is good enough for her. Rory is furious, but Lorelai convinces Rory to forgive him.

Sookie calls Emily to invite her and Richard to Lorelai's engagement party. Emily is stunned since Lorelai hadn't told them about her engagement. She demands that Richard apologize to Rory, saying, "Our daughter is getting married, and she didn't tell us. When Rory decides to get married, I'd like her to tell us."
